The First Quarto of ''Hamlet'' was discovered in 1823, by Sir Henry Bunbury, a British military officer and historian. The ''Hamlet'' First Quarto was bound within a volume of twelve Shakespeare plays Bunbury found in a closet at his manor house. Bunbury thought the ~~Shakespeare volume had probably belonged to his grandfather, who collected early English plays~~.

The "First Quarto" of ''Hamlet'' is the one dated 1603.
